Description

From India or Malaysia, the lime was broadcast around the Mediterranean by the Crusaders and brought to America by the Portuguese. Although less rich in vitamin C than lemon, it was used on British ships as a remedy against scurvy. Hence the nickname limeys given by the Americans to the British, especially the English.
